The traditional paintwork of narrowboats features naturalistic and pictorial elements commonly referred to as “Roses and Castles.” While many may associate this decorative art with rose patterns and castle pictures, its origins go beyond these specific elements. In fact, the tradition is much broader and highly valued in the late twentieth century.
